Definitely a guilty pleasure
Lately, it seems that all my room mate talks about is wanting fries. Naturally, now all I want to do is eat fries. In my new cookbook that I bought, there was a recipe on how to make fries in the oven and while I’ve attempted to make them many times before, it seems as though they never turned out until I took some suggestions from my cookbook.
We’ve probably made oven fries about 3 times in the past week and I don’t see that pace slowing down anytime soon. This recipe is quick and easy which means that now there is no excuse when a french fry craving comes along.
3 red skin potatoes (between medium and large sized)
about 5 tablespoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees farenheight. Cut the potatoes into thin (but not too thin) strips. I usually cut about 4 times to make the rounds and then 4 or 5 times to make the strips. Put potatoes into a bowl and add oil and spices– mix well. Place potatoes in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for about 40 minutes, turning 1/2 way through for even cooking. When they are done, place on a paper towl to cool and serve with ketchup.
Another alternative to a topping is to take about 4 tablespoons of butter and melt that with 3 chopped cloves of garlic. Once the mixture becomes fragrant, pour over the potatoes and add any additional spices. Cook the same way. This gives it a little garlic kick– or rather a large garlic kick.
